"El Carme", the festivity of the sea folk

"El Carme", the festivity of the sea folk
Next July 16, the Virgen del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) will be held, the patroness of the small parish of Es Cubells (municipality of Sant Josep) and all the sea folk. To celebrate this day it is the custom to organise boat processions in the ports of Eivissa, Sant Antoni, la Savina de Formentera...

In Eivissa, the festivity is held on the very day of the Virgin, Wednesday July 16 as from 6 p.m. with a mass in the old church of Sant Elm, parish of Sant Savlador de la Marina, followed by a long boat procession round the bay. On the other hand, in Sant Antoni, the festivity will be held on the following Sunday, July 20, so as not to coincide with the one in Eivissa. The programme will start at 7 p.m. with the traditional mass followed by a procession through the streets of Sant Antoni and finishing with a boat procession round the bay as from 8 p.m. In the two processions, in Eivissa and Sant Antoni, the drum and band of the Cruz Roja Juventud de Eivissa y Formentera will play.

The fiesta programme for the Carme on Formentera is not available yet, but normally on the 16th a boat procession is held in the puerto de la Savina; and the following Sunday the procession is held in es Pujols, also accompanied by music and dance.
